DESCRIPTION:Ralph McGaul was born in Macclesfield in 1983. He completed an art foundation course at City College Brighton and Hove and now lives and works in Macclesfield. His work ranges in media from painting and print making\, through to mosaics\, collages and woodwork. \nHis approach to making art is intuitive and visceral with the goal of producing something that is immediate and visually engaging\, without the need for wordy explanations. \nAdopting various different media helps him to maintain interest and inventiveness which is key to the work’s vitality. \nA Private View is being held at 4.30 – 8pm on Friday 16 February. \nralphmcgaul.co.uk

DESCRIPTION:In 1980\, when I was sixteen years of age – with all the earnestness and empathy at my then command\, I gave an old homeless man a pound. Then\, I asked him where he was living. He replied\, ‘I am living next to you\, or else\, I would be dead!’ Back then\, both his sarcasm and realism were lost on me. \nHowever a few years on and far more aware\, I overheard a prison guard say to an inmate\, ‘You are doing time’ to which the prisoner replies ‘so are you\, as we are all doing time’. Instantly\, I understood fully the prisoner’s words – although evidently they were lost on the guard.

DESCRIPTION:During a residency at Derby’s Arboretum\, Rosalind Pounder & John Blakemore\, created two distinctly different yet complementary bodies of work inspired by Derby Arboretum the first “publicly owned\, landscaped\, urban\, recreational park in England”. \nTaking inspiration from their natural environment \, Rosalind and John worked with the changing elements over a period of time to create two bodies of work that\, whilst unique\, complement each other. \nRosalind works with foraged and natural materials to draw and paint with\, as well as creating beautiful\, intricate sculptural objects.\nJohn Blakemore is a world-renowned master photographer and this body of work\, capturing the trees within the park\, has been taken on a wide format camera. \nMeet the Artists\nJohn and Rosalind will be joining The Smallprint Company at their Open Day on September 2nd\, 2017 to chat about their work and inspirations.
