Long Stitch Bookbinding Workshop: Discover this simple binding technique in this Long Stitch Bookbinding Workshop to create a journal, sketchbook or notebook with a recycled cover.
Long Stitch Binding is a simple decorative binding technique which allows you to open out the book completely flat, requires no glue and offers a really good binding strength. The technique involves sewing the signatures directly to the cover and is a great way of keeping your favourite recipes, hand written poems, or sketches in one place.
There are two types of long-stitch bookbinding methods and in this workshop, we will be punching holes into the cover and sewing through the holes. This method has been around since medieval times and is believed to have originated from Germany.
On the Day
Hannah will teach a small group the basics of a simple bookbinding technique – known as Long Stitch Binding – and how to make a simple recycled cover for your project.
After choosing a suitable recycled card, you will learn how to construct an A5 book, using the Long Stitch sewing technique to hold the pages and covers together.
Your decorative book will make the perfect journal or sketchbook, holding treasured sketches or written memories and at the end of the session you will be able to take away the skills and book that you have made.
